Giving voice to sexual violence victims in Charedi communities

About us

Hineni is an Israeli non-profit association committed to fighting sexual assault in Charedi communities; working to break the silence of victims; and seeking public and community support for survivors.

In October 2015, Avigail Heilbronn, an Israeli Charedi woman, posted on her
personal Facebook profile about women’s security. Following numerous appeals
from women in the Charedi community who had been sexually assaulted, she
decided to open a Facebook page called “Lo Tishtok” (You Shell Not Be
Silent). This Facebook page became an address for children who were victims of
sexual crimes in the Charedi society and led to a discourse on sexual
assaults.

In 2021, following the Chaim Walder scandal and the reactions of the
Charedi leadership to his suicide, the movement awoke with great force,
and many Charedi activists joined the call for change and the cessation
of silence in the Charedi society. That same year, Heilbronn, together
with her friend Sari Kroizer and other Charedi activists, organized the
first “Beit Yaakov” protest, against the continued employment of
Tzvia Rotenberg as the school principal of the Ma’alot Ultra-Orthodox Seminary,
after several former students complained that she had sexually assaulted them.

In 2022, Avigail Heilbronn, along with Sari Kroizer and other Charedi
activists, established the “Hineni – For the Community” association,
which is intended to continue and strengthen the “Lo Tishtok”
movement within the Charedi community and to strengthen community
support for victims of sexual assault within the Ultra-Orthodox sector.

We are here to continue fixing broken pieces, to reinforce positive trends and to fortify professionals and activists in the Israeli ultra-orthodox public.

We are here to lend social support and create community for victims of sexual violence in the Israeli ultra-orthodox public thereby fostering a sense of empowerment and personal resilience among the victims.
